Frequently Asked Questions
Honest answers to what people most often wonder before they reach out.

I've already been in therapy. What would be different?
Many people arrive here after therapy that helped them understand themselves but didn't change the pattern. This work is specialized and active: it targets what is keeping the problem in place, using approaches like ERP, EMDR, and sex therapy, and it includes practice, not only conversation.
I understand why I do this, so why am I still stuck?
Because insight and change run on different tracks. Compulsions, avoidance, reassurance seeking, and a nervous system on alert can all continue even when you know exactly where they came from. Treatment works on those maintaining factors directly.
Is an intensive worth the investment?
It depends on you. An intensive offers more concentrated, extended time, which some people find useful when weekly sessions feel too fragmented or their schedule makes regular appointments hard. It is not right for everyone, and the consultation is where you can decide whether it makes sense for your situation.
Can I meet by video?
Yes. Therapy is provided by telehealth to people located in Texas, Colorado, or Idaho at the time of session.
Are any intensives available in person?
In-person arrangements for some Austin intensives may be possible; ask about details during your consultation.
Is my problem serious enough for specialized therapy?
If something is taking up space in your life and you haven't been able to shift it, it's worth a conversation. You don't need to prove that it's bad enough. The consultation helps clarify whether this level of care is right for you.
I'm embarrassed to say what I'm actually thinking, or what's happening sexually.
That is very common, and you can take it at your own pace. Intrusive thoughts and sexual concerns are a central part of this practice, not an exception to it. You don't have to make it sound better before you say it.
Will you judge me?
No. This practice is nonjudgmental and openly affirming of LGBTQIA+, kink, ENM, and polyamorous clients. There is nothing you have to hide here.
I've never done ERP, EMDR, or ketamine-assisted psychotherapy. What if it's overwhelming?
You won't be pushed into anything. Each approach is explained first, paced collaboratively, and adjusted as you go. Some discomfort can be part of useful work, but the goal is challenge you can handle, never overwhelm.
Weekly therapy or an intensive?
Weekly therapy gives steady, ongoing support. An intensive offers more concentrated, extended time in one block. Some people use one, some use both. The consultation helps you decide which fits.
Why is the consultation paid?
The $100 consultation is a clinical-fit conversation with time to consider the right care. The $100 is credited in full toward your first paid session or intensive.
Do you take insurance?
No insurance is billed; this is a private-pay practice. Superbills are available on request for possible out-of-network reimbursement, which depends on your plan.
Is sex therapy talk therapy?
Yes, always. The work is talk therapy only, without sexual contact or physical sexual activity.
Do you prescribe ketamine?
No. Open Heart Healed Mind provides psychotherapy, preparation, and integration only. Medical screening, prescribing, medication, and monitoring are handled separately by an appropriate medical provider.
