What Does a Sex Therapist Actually Do?
You can speak directly about desire, intimacy, shame, and relationships in a session.

The Basics
A Conversation, Not Physical Treatment
Sex therapy is talk therapy and never involves sexual contact or physical sexual activity. Sessions involve conversation, reflection, and questions about your experience. Andrea does not provide medical examinations or prescribe treatment for physical symptoms.
People may come with questions about desire, worry during intimacy, shame learned earlier in life, or a conversation with a partner that keeps ending in silence. You do not need to choose the right technical words before speaking. Andrea has specialized training in sex therapy and asks about the meaning and context of the concern rather than assuming there is one normal way you should feel.
First Conversations
What Andrea Might Ask
A first meeting might include when the concern began, what changed around that time, and what happens immediately before the difficulty appears. Stress, health, identity, relationship agreements, and past experiences can all matter. Andrea may also ask what you have tried and what made the subject hard to bring up. The purpose is to understand you, not to grade your relationship.
You can attend on your own, even if the concern affects a partnership. If a partner joins you, each person has room to describe the pattern as they experience it. Andrea can help you hear the difference between what one person intends and what the other hears. The conversation can focus on how each of you experiences the concern.
What Is in Scope
Therapy Alongside Medical Care
Psychotherapy can address pressure, fear, communication, beliefs, and the way an experience affects closeness. A physical concern may also need assessment by a medical provider. Andrea may recommend that you check with one when symptoms could have a medical component. That recommendation does not dismiss the emotional or relationship side; it keeps different kinds of care in their proper roles.
Sex therapy does not treat kink, non-monogamy, or LGBTQIA+ identity as a problem. The focus is the concern you bring, which might be distress, difference, uncertainty, or a recurring conflict. You are not required to share every private detail at once. You can begin with the conversation you have been avoiding and decide together what else is relevant.
Ways to Attend
A Format for One Person or Two
Individual Sex Therapy costs $250 for a 50-minute session. Couples and Sex Therapy is $300 for 50 minutes when both partners attend. A 90-minute Extended Specialty Session is $395 if a longer conversation fits the work. These formats are not stages you have to pass through in order. Andrea can discuss who should attend and what focus would make sense for the first appointment.
Care is by secure telehealth for clients physically located in Texas, Colorado, or Idaho during each session. A $100 consultation gives you time to ask whether to come alone or with a partner and what the first conversation could include. The $100 is credited in full toward your first paid session or intensive. You can speak about uncertainty without committing to a particular label for it.
Some people worry that a therapist will assume one partner is at fault or that a difference in desire automatically needs correction. Andrea can ask how each person understands the difference and whether distress comes from pressure, distance, or something else. Your values and agreements matter. The work is about making the concern speakable and clinically understandable, rather than imposing a single model of intimacy.
A Next Step
When to Reach Out
If the subject is taking up room in your relationship or making you withdraw from intimacy, you can ask about therapy. Describe the conversation you cannot quite have, or the question you keep setting aside. Andrea can explain what care might involve without asking you to disclose everything in an initial request.
Say the question in your own words.
