What Is a Therapy Intensive?

An intensive is psychotherapy with more concentrated, extended time for a defined concern. The length is planned with you, not chosen from a menu alone.

The Format

More Than a Longer Appointment

A therapy intensive sets aside an extended block for a particular area of work. Instead of spending the beginning of each weekly appointment getting oriented again, you have more time in one sitting to prepare, work with a focus, pause, and consider what follows. That does not mean doing more than feels appropriate. The extra time can hold a slower beginning and a deliberate ending.

At Open Heart Healed Mind, EMDR and ERP/OCD Intensives are each 180 minutes for $1,500. A Couples & Intimacy Intensive is 180 minutes for $1,750. Custom & Multi-Day Intensives run 360 minutes or more and cost $2,500 to $3,000+, priced after consultation. These are different clinical focuses, not interchangeable packages. Andrea discusses what belongs in the time before anyone schedules it.

Beforehand

The Consultation Comes First

A $100 consultation is required before any intensive. Andrea asks what is happening now, what care you have already tried, and why a longer appointment interests you. She also considers whether the concern calls for a different pace or another kind of support. You can ask specific questions about the proposed work without committing to an intensive during that first conversation.

The $100 is credited in full toward your first paid session or intensive. If an extended format fits, there may be preparation before the appointment itself. An ERP plan might map compulsions and avoidance. EMDR work may require time to assess readiness and choose a target. Couples work begins with understanding each person's account of the pattern. Preparation is part of the clinical decision, not homework you must get right.

During the Time

A Focus, with Room to Adjust

The session is still psychotherapy. You and Andrea agree on a focus, and she checks how the work is landing as you go. Depending on the approach, you might spend time examining a recurring fear, processing a memory, or speaking together about a conflict that usually ends too soon. Breaks and changes in pace can be part of a responsible plan.

Results vary, and no particular result is promised. It is also not crisis care or a substitute for a higher level of care. There is time to notice if the original plan needs to change. If something important emerges that cannot responsibly be handled in the remaining minutes, Andrea can discuss what support would be appropriate next rather than forcing a conclusion.

Afterward

What Comes After the Session

The last part of an intensive gives you room to name what stood out and discuss how to care for yourself afterward. You might have follow-up appointments, return to weekly therapy, or review whether another format is appropriate. The plan depends on the concern and what happens in the work, not on a predetermined number of sessions.

Sessions are available by secure telehealth while you are physically located in Texas, Colorado, or Idaho at the time of care. For a longer video appointment, choose a private setting and protect time on both sides of the session. You can discuss practical access and privacy during the consultation, especially if other people share your home.

If you are weighing an intensive because weekly sessions have felt too brief, say what tends to get cut off. Maybe the first half of a meeting goes to finding your footing, or a shared conversation stops just as you begin to hear each other. That detail helps Andrea consider what the longer block could responsibly hold. The format should answer a specific need, not simply create a bigger appointment.

A Next Step

When to Reach Out

If a specific concern needs more uninterrupted attention, request a consultation and describe what you hope the extended time could hold. Andrea can talk through clinical fit and compare an intensive with regular sessions. You do not need to select an approach on your own before asking.
