OCD Without Visible Rituals

Pure O and Mental Rumination

From the outside, it may look like nothing is happening. Inside, you are working constantly to get an answer that holds.

The Invisible Work

The Ritual Can Happen Entirely in Your Head

You review a memory until the sequence feels right. You repeat a reassuring phrase, mentally cancel one image with another, or check whether you reacted with the correct feeling. No one sees the effort. By the end of the day, you may feel exhausted from a process that appears to have taken no time at all.

The term Pure O can be misleading. The obsessions may be obvious to you while the compulsions are quiet, private, and mental. Reviewing, analyzing, neutralizing, and internal checking can all serve the same purpose as a visible ritual: trying to remove uncertainty. The absence of handwashing or repeated external checking does not mean OCD is absent.

In the Room

We Name What the Mind Is Doing

Andrea helps you notice the difference between thinking through a practical problem and repeating a question that cannot be settled. You may look at what starts the loop, how long you stay in it, and what you hope the next round of analysis will finally deliver. There is no need to win an argument against the thought before beginning.

Andrea is Certified in ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention). In ERP, you can practice letting a question remain unanswered while stepping back from the mental response that normally follows. The practice works with your response after thoughts arrive. You and Andrea agree on the pace.

Choosing a Format

Make Space for the Subtle Parts

Individual Therapy is $225 for 50 minutes. A regular session gives you time to bring specific examples of the loop, especially the ones that sound too small to mention. The important detail is often not the content of a thought but the moment it became a demand for certainty.

The ERP/OCD Intensive costs $1,500 for 180 minutes and provides more concentrated, extended time to map the pattern and practice a different response. The required consultation before an intensive is $100. The $100 is credited in full toward your first paid session or intensive. You can discuss which format fits the concern and your circumstances.

Beyond the Session

You Can Notice Without Solving

Mental rituals often feel automatic. You might notice only afterward that you have spent a commute rehearsing an explanation or that you are trying to make an emotion feel exact. Those observations are useful in session; they are not a scorecard. There is no requirement to bring a perfectly organized account of your thoughts.

Andrea offers secure telehealth for people located in Texas, Colorado, and Idaho at the time of the session. If the phrase Pure O sounds familiar but you are unsure whether OCD describes your experience, the consultation is a place to talk through the pattern and consider an appropriate next step.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it still OCD if nobody sees a compulsion?

Yes. Mental reviewing, neutralizing, and checking can function as compulsions even when no outward ritual is visible.

How do I tell reflection from rumination?

In therapy, you look at whether the thinking helps with a practical decision or repeatedly tries to produce certainty and short-lived relief.

Does ERP mean I must stop thinking?

No. ERP addresses the response to intrusive thoughts, not the mere presence of thoughts. The practice is planned together.
